When the leading food and beverage manufacturer in Jamaica was considering options to reduce energy costs and improve energy reliability, they contacted Genplant to provide an on-site energy plant solution that would meet their energy demands and provide lower cost, more reliable electricity and offset the purchase of boiler fuel.
Genplant delivered our GENc3500 natural gas fueled combined heat and power (CHP) plant solution that produces up to 1.5 MW of electricity and produces steam and hot water. The steam and hot water from the CHP plant reduces the boiler fuel needed to deliver steam to the processing facility.
Because the CHP plant operates independently from the utility electric grid, Genplant integrated the existing backup diesel genset into the new CHP plant for fuel and genset redundancy.
The CHP plant is equipped with Genplant’s AWARE™ energy management system solution that provides continuous monitoring of the plant's operations, optimizing it for peak performance.
By implementing Genplant’s on-site energy solution, our customer recognized significant capital expenditure savings as well as an expected OPEX savings of approximately 59% compared to using grid-provided electricity and fuel for the facility's existing steam boilers.
